Essential Oils That Smell Good and some of the ones we use
Share
Let’s be honest. Walk into most shops that sell natural soap and you’re met with a waft of “sleepy time” blends that smell like your nan’s airing cupboard.
If you’re someone who climbs, runs, farms, or fixes things for a living, that probably doesn’t cut it.
There are plenty of plant-based scents that are fresh, clean, and a bit more… grounded.
Here are a few of our faves – no fluff, just bold, natural character.
Cedarwood
Think of the inside of a tool shed with timber walls – warm, slightly smoky, and deeply grounding. Cedarwood brings an earthy, dry tone to soap and works well in blends with citrus or herbal oils. It’s been used for centuries and it just smells solid.
Lemongrass
Fresh, sharp and unmistakably zesty – lemongrass gives your senses a proper kick. It cuts through grime and stale smells, making it ideal for post-work workouts, or after a day grafting outdoors.
Rosemary
Forget the roast potatoes – rosemary essential oil is herbaceous, green and punchy. It’s also great for the skin, with natural cleansing properties. We pair it with peppermint and lavender for a proper herbal hit.
Peppermint
Clean and cool on the skin. Peppermint oil wakes you up, clears your head and leaves you feeling fresh without smelling like a sweet shop. Especially good in post-exercise soaps.
Lavender (The Right Kind)
Not all lavender smells like your nan's airing cupboard. Paired well, it’s clean and herbal – not powdery or sweet. We like it blended with woody or citrus oils to take the edge off. More field than floral.
Frankincense
A smoky, resinous scent with depth. Frankincense has a long history in skincare – it smells earthy and slightly spicy, with none of that artificial sweetness. Adds a touch of something without being fussy.
Why We Use These Scents and Essential Oils
We’re not here to make your skin smell like a spring meadow or give it a strong scent that follows you around all day. We make soap for people who get muddy, sweaty, and knackered – and need to scrub off the day. These oils don’t just smell good, they’ve got benefits too: antibacterial properties, freshening effects, and no synthetic rubbish.
Because good soap shouldn’t be complicated. It should just do the job – and smell right.
