Why we use Dandelion Root in our 'Patchouli Spice' Soap - and why your skin might thank you

No hype. No gimmicks. Just one of nature’s quiet workhorses, doing what it’s always done.
You’ve probably seen dandelions poking through pavement cracks or scattered across summer fields—but behind those sunny little flowers lies a root that’s been used for generations in herbal remedies, skincare, and wellness. And in our book, that kind of staying power means something.
That’s why we use Dandelion Root Powder in one of our favourite bar soaps. Patchouli Spice.
What is Dandelion Root, Anyway?
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is often dismissed as a common weed. But its root is packed with natural goodness—traditionally used to support digestion, liver function, and yes, even skin health. The dried root is ground into a fine, earthy powder and added to our soap at just the right stage, keeping all that gentle herbal character intact.
No synthetics, no stripping agents. Just dried, powdered root from a plant that knows how to thrive.
So Why Put It in Soap?
Great question. And the answer’s simple: we like ingredients that pull their weight without shouting about it. Dandelion root doesn’t come with bold claims or flashy packaging. But in soap, it brings three things we love:
1. A gentle exfoliating touch
The fine powder gives the bar a light scrubby texture—just enough to lift away dead skin and daily grime without scratching or drying you out.
2. Natural herbal goodness
Dandelion root is known for being rich in vitamins and minerals, especially potassium and inulin (a natural prebiotic). It plays nicely with the skin’s microbiome—no harshness, no fuss.
3. That proper earthy feel
We’re big fans of scents and textures that remind you you’re working with something real. The addition of powdered root gives the bar a grounding, rustic finish—something that feels as honest as it is effective.
An Upcycled Win for Skin and Soil
Here’s the bit we’re most proud of: the Dandelion Root we use is grown without chemicals, harvested carefully right here in the UK. No waste, no air miles, no corner-cutting.
Upcycled botanicals are having their moment in the spotlight this year—and rightly so. They help reduce waste, keep ingredients local, and add real value to your skincare without the need for labs and long ingredient lists. (Because let’s be honest, the less we need to Google, the better.)
Meet the Soap
Our Patchouli Spice bar blends dandelion root powder with a grounding mix of cedarwood, patchouli and amyris essential oils, plus a rich base of olive oil, shea butter, and kokum.
It’s the kind of soap you’ll find by the kitchen sink or shower tray—and keep coming back to.
• Plastic-free
• Palm oil-free
• No synthetic colours or fragrances
• Handmade in the Brecon Beacons
• Wrapped in compostable paper, because that’s how we roll
We’ll never shout about miracle cures or silver bullets—but we will keep working with real herbs, real oils, and real ingredients that do right by your skin. Dandelion root happens to be one of them.
Next time you spot a yellow puffball in the garden, give it a nod. It’s been looking after people for centuries—and in our humble opinion, it’s still got a lot to give.
