Why We Use Kaolin (And Why Your Skin Will Thank You)
There’s a reason we add kaolin clay our bars — and it’s not to make them look fancy.
They're there because they work. No fluff, no gimmicks — just hardworking ingredients that clean deep, without wrecking your skin.
What is Kaolin?
Kaolin is a natural clay, soft and fine, with a long history of being used to draw out dirt and oil. It’s the gentlest of the clays — which means it can clean without stripping your skin like some harsh soaps do.
What It Does in Soap:
-
Draws out grime: Helps lift out dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin.
-
Mild exfoliation: Smooths rough patches without being scratchy.
-
Soothes irritated skin: Ideal after a hard day in the sun, wind, or cold.
-
Improves slip: Makes soap glide better across the skin.
Great for faces, sweaty skin, or anyone who works outdoors or on the tools.
What is Activated Charcoal?
No, not barbecue charcoal — this is highly porous, medical-grade stuff made from burnt coconut shells or similar. We use it in our Midnight Pine soap. It’s known for its ability to absorb toxins, dirt, and oil like a sponge.
What It Does in Soap:
-
Deep cleans: Especially good for skin that sweats, oils up, or deals with daily dirt.
-
Unclogs pores: Helps shift the stuff that causes spots or irritation.
-
Deodorises naturally: Charcoal absorbs odours without perfumes.
-
Gives the soap a tough, clean black look — but it rinses off clear.
It’s perfect for post-gym showers or when you’ve been head to toe in muck.
🧼 Why We Use Both
We don’t use ingredients for the sake of it. Kaolin and charcoal both earn their place in our bars.
Kaolin and charcoal aren’t trendy extras — they’re workhorse ingredients that do their job properly. That’s why we use them.
Because soap should clean you up and do the job.
